Wanna Book Review?

I've been reading a lot more novels lately and, inspired by some teen book bloggers I interviewed for an article, I figured I'd let you know what I've been reading.

I just finished Havisham by Ronald Frame. I admit, when I read Great Expectations in high school for English lit, I didn't love it. But the whole character of Miss Havisham, a woman jilted at the altar and still wearing her wedding dress, with the wedding feast and cake moldering on the table kinda stuck with me. So, when this cover caught my eye, I picked it up. Loved it! If you like historical fiction, Dickens, or just this cool cover, give it a try. Pip makes his appearance and, if you've read the Dickens classic, you'll be interested in the whole wrap up of that story within this story.

I must've been in a historical read kind of mood, because this was my next read.

This is the story of the true-life love triangle of Poe, his young wife and Frances Osgood, with Frances as the main character. It was good, but I had to jump in a few times before I stuck with it. No idea why, because I did enjoy it, just not as much as Havisham. There are plenty of real people who pop in—Barlett, Alcott, Hawthorne, Morse, Barnum, and more—and the description of 1840s America is really well done. I like that it tells the story of Poe at the height of his "Raven" fame and from the mistress's point of view and I liked that she was a female writer, being invited into the literary society of New York.

I think I'm going to tackle this one next. I like this author.

I loved this one of hers, set in New York city in the 1950s, very stylish and so cool to read about.

What's your next read?

Happy Wednesday and Happy Reading!
