Journaling Cards Aren't Just for Scrapbooking

I'm not sure why, but I love the packets of journaling cards that companies put out. They're meant for pocket scrapbooking—you just slide the artwork (sized for the pockets) into the slots and then add some photos to the other pockets. However, I'm not a huge pocket scrapbooker, though I have done a few pages. I mostly just buy the journaling cards! So, in order to justify the purchase and to use some of the cute cards, I've trimmed them to fit a standard card base and made greeting cards with some of mine.

I bought these at Scrapbook.com and they're super on sale right now, so here's a link (not affiliate) in case you want them. This first card uses the cutest cupcake card and I cut apart the word birthday and then outline the edges. The happy die is from Stamplorations. I also added Nuvo blue drops and used another card for the background.

This one just uses a few different cards and a sentiment strip I had from a pack. I think this one might need more bling. What's fun about using a pack is that they all match, so you can mix and match.

I think this one is my favorite. I used just one card, but I added glitter stenciling and the same happy die, along with mini letters from a sticker pack, and circle holographic stickers.

I used three cards on this one, but again, I feel I need some more bling. I do love the different-colored rainbows, though.

What item do you buy even though you technically can't use it all? Tell me I'm not alone!😆

Journaling Cards in Card Making

I have a little problem...I love the journaling cards (like these) made for pocket scrapbooking...and I don't pocket scrapbook. Which means I have a box of these pocket cards in my stash. Not a little box, but a photo box full of them. So, I decided to use some of them recently. Although I have used them on traditional scrapbook pages, today I've got a card to show you. The aqua base is a larger pocket card cut to fit and then I used three more for the layers. I added the thanks embellishment that I've had forever and some Silver Stickles to finish it off.

It's a thank you card for my aunts, who I inherited when I got married 27 years ago. They are little Italian aunts who are around the 80-year-old mark and who live together. They are a hoot when we visit them. Aunt Katie is the elder sister and she tells Aunt Mae what to do, like constantly. And Aunt Mae (who lived for years alone until her sister's retirement) pretty much listens. 

They'll say pretty much anything and give you stuff whenever you visit (like pizelle cookies, homemade rolls, a casserole dish, a cookbook and old photos). One of my favorite Aunt Katie moments is when she was giving us a wedding party picture and naming all the people in the photo. At the end, she said, "everyone in this picture is dead, except me," very matter-of-fact and just calmly. It cracked us all up. 

They are generous to a fault and we love them like crazy, and I often send them thank you cards because they often give us things. I got a watch from Alaska recently that "a friend" gave Aunt Katie years ago and that she can't wear anymore. There's a story here but I don't have it yet. I intend to ask sometime in the future though. I'll bet it's a good one.

Using Project Life Cards

I seem to be a collector of the Project Life cards aka pocket scrapbooking cards. They are meant to slide into page protectors that are divided for pocket scrapbooking, but I don't actually use them for that. I use them in regular layouts and for cardmaking. I love how perfectly sized they are for cards.

Here I'm using the Ella and Friends stamps and some of my birthday related pocket cards.

I think the first is my favorite, but they all came together quickly because of the pocket cards and the fact that I'd already colored the stamped panels. I need to add a little something--sequins, enamel dots, ribbon?--to the last two cards and maybe sentiments. Not sure yet, but they are almost finished, so here they are!

And a final one that uses a hip, hip hooray card and a Tim Holtz Crazy Bird stamp.

I'm not sure, but this bird might be feeling sarcastic.
