Kid's Decor

I made this decor for a magazine call and while it didn't get chosen, something did (yay!) and I'll share that later. This project is so inexpensive and easy and perfect to personalize for a kid's interest.

First, take a 10x10 photo mat ($2.99 from Jo Ann's) and paint red with a foam brush. Take a wooden letter from the craft store and paint blue with a foam brush (I used Dylusions paint).

After they dry, cut the scrapbook paper of your choice to fit (I used Doodlebug Design Under the SEa paper for the background), but you could use baseball, soccer, dance, or whatever theme you like.and adhere it to the back of the mat. Then adhere the initial to the front with dry adhesive or glue dots.

Here's a close-up of the cute paper.

On the back of the mat, attach a bent pop tab so it can be hung on a wall. We used these are wall hangers when I was in art school a thousand years ago...they're free and available everywhere and they work just fine, no expensive frame hangers needed. Well, they're probably not that expensive, but I'll bet you'd have to go to the store to get a hanger and you probably already have a pop tab around the house.

Happy Wednesday and last day of August!

Birdy Card with Frame

I'm using my color layering bird stamps from Hero Arts again, and some of the newer Hero Arts Bold inks. Love them! They are so rich and dense...and they're hybrid inks so they work in a lot of situations, They're crisp and dry quickly, combining the best of dye and pigment inks. Also you can use these on vellum, which is always tricky. This is the HA post on the inks so you can see all the prettiness!

The blue frame is Spellbinders and the ribbon is from my stash.

The bird's tail is a little wider than it's supposed to be. Because me and layering stamps don't always get along and I forgot to line up the tail and beak and concentrated on the beak and head. Ooops! I think it's ok, though, because maybe this bird just has a fat tail—no judgement! :)

The sky color is just my handy dandy Broken China Distress Ink and just painted on lightly.

I'm really glad I got these inks and bought some more solid stamps so I could use them more and I'm not much of an ink girl.

If you head to a2z Scrapbooking, you can get all the colors and the reinkers, and if you use CHARK15 as your code, you'll save 15% on your cart of $25 or more, including the sale items, so that's a double discount, woot!

Also I have this card up on the a2z blog with a digi image. It was a lot of fun to color. I'd like to enter it in the Blog Named Hero challenge this month, Pop of Color.

Happy Wednesday friends!

Peanut Butter Cookie Day

Happy PB Cookie Day! I'm not a huge fan of the basic peanut butter cookies, but this recipe here at Taste of Home looks right up my alley because of the added chocolate and Reese's cups. mmmm...now if only I could get someone here to bake them for me!

I guess I'll settle for the chocolate chip muffins my daughter made the other day. The sacrifices I have to make are huge...huge!

Here's a sneak peek at my project over at a2z Scrapbooking Blog today. I'll tell you a secret—it's not a card.

Don't forget—you can get 15% off at a2z Scrapbooking Supplies by using my code CHARK15 when your cart totals $25 or more...aaannnddd...every purchase you make helps out charities that help kids with gluten allergies and people with Behcet's disease. It's a win/win...you get crafty goodies like the new Ombre Inks and Lia line and your money goes to a good cause.

Have a Great Peanut Butter Cookie Day!
