Where the Wild Things Are

So, I found this paper from Paper House Productions and it has the iconic book characters from Where the Wild Things Are...since my daughter is an elementary school librarian and she needed a baby shower card, I made her the fastest card ever.

I trimmed a panel from the 12x12 paper and adhered it at an angle to some dotted paper and added twine. I frayed the ends of the knot, because, well, they're wild! And though this shot doesn't show it, I added some matte gold sequins to the card. I just felt it needed something. And regular gold sequins wouldn't have worked for this card. I used Nuvo clear drops on his scales and horns and on the boy's crown for texture. Ta Da! Ready to go in 5 minutes!

This baby shower card was just as fast...the sequin elephant is a sticker from my stash...ever have something crafty so long you forget where it came from? Yep, that's this elephant. (I searched google for sequin elephant sticker and this ebay listing came up if you need your own).

I bought it years ago and it just sat there. Finally I figured it was time to use him. I used some School Days paper (yep, old stuff from my stash) and yellow cardstock and this one was finished too!

Inside I stamped a sentiment, which I stamped crooked, so I re-stamped it on the yellow cardstock and adhered that over the messed up one. That took the longest. I ought to know by now not to stamp directly in a card!

And my last baby shower card uses a free stamp I got when I ordered some stamps but I can't even remember who sent it...that's when you know it's time to stop buying stuff! It's so sweet and small. I used a watercolor background and purple ribbon. Getting that watercolor just right took me the longest time. Too dark, too crooked, too whatever. But this one worked for me.

Time for a Baby Shower and a Winner

Hi, friends, I have two baby shower cards to share...the first one uses with the shower theme and Lawn Fawn paper and dies. I also used a tiny heart die from Hero Arts Hearts Infinity Dies. I love the infinity dies by HA, they have tons of shapes and tons of dies in each set for a really good price point. We have some in the a2z Scrapbooking store and you can special order any of them from Hero Arts.

I used alcohol inks on glossy paper in rainbow colors and then die cut lots of tiny hearts. The clouds are stacked three high and I used a glitter pen on them.

For this card, I used the Hero Arts Ornaments Infinity Dies for the carriage and smaller Circles Infinity dies for the wheels. You can see more about this one on the a2z Scrapbooking blog here.

Baby showers are so fun...and babies are too!

And now it's time for the winner of my National Sticker Day giveaway...I put my followers/commenters in a random generator and Miranda Smith was the winner! Thanks so much for following me to each of you...I appreciate your comments and your time!

You can email me by Feb. 28, 2018, (click on my blogger profile), Miranda, and I'll send out your stickers asap!

Glitter Makes Me Happy

I'm in the middle of creating a project and decided to add crepe paper rosettes to the project. Afterward, I decided I ought to distress the crepe paper or somehow add to it and I thought of glitter. Instead of traditional glitter, I went with Stickles Gold and rolled the edges of the rosettes in a pile of glitter glue. Love it!

The only real trick to making these is to cover the base circle with adhesive. I used tape runner and at first I missed some spots and it showed, so I tried again and completely covered the circle before adhering the crepe paper. Much better results.

And while I'm feeling the vintage vibe, here is some Baby Advice from 1947 from my Baby Care Book by Better Homes and Garden.

Training to the Chamber
Prepare the smallest size chamber by dipping it in warm water to take off the chill. Place him on your lap, or lay Baby on the bath table on his back. Next put the vessel against his buttocks...After a time Baby will begin to strain and attempt to have the movement when the vessel's applied.

All of this to say, if you want to start potty training your 2-month-old, knock yourself out. It'll be tricky, because you'll have to time it right and keep track of when Baby normally goes and his food intake, but Baby will start to get it. They do advocate waiting until Baby can sit up well on his own (6 months) so you can put him on a "potty" chair (their quotes, not mine) and leave the room for 10 minutes for him to do his business.

Do you think this actually worked for anyone? It sounds like a lot of work for the mom...and in 1947 it was all mom's work. Though they do have this one photo of the dad holding the baby. The other million are of the mom.

Baby Love

So my niece is expecting a little boy any day now and I thought I'd jump on the baby bandwagon (if that's a thing) and do a baby post while we wait.

Here's a card I made at the lss, The Paper Cottage, with Crate Paper Confetti papers. I added a little wink of stella glitter pen to the stork, but you can't see that here. It's not my design, but I really like it and the papers.

m

And here's a book that I picked up from a library book sale that is awesome. It's a Better Homes and Gardens Baby Book from 1947 and it covers prenatal through age 6.

Now, there IS some actual good advice in this book for today's parents, but mostly...oh dear...don't think of following it.

For example, Sun Baths

When the weather's suitable, Baby may be exposed to the direct rays of the sun from the time he's 1 month old....He can get his first sunburn around April 1, and be well tanned by late April, with no ill effects from the exposure.

Eek! It goes on to say, "Baby shouldn't be exposed to the direct rays of a hot midsummer sun," (which is the actual good advice) but I'm pretty sure you don't want to tan your one month old baby, even indirectly.

Stay tuned for more important baby care tips from 1947.

For Nerdy Moms and Dads

Hi, crafty friends! Guess what I made with the Kelly Purkey Robot stamps? Baby girl and baby boy gift cards for a baby shower gift.

You can check them out at the a2z Scrapbooking Supplies blog today. I was thinking of my niece, who's expecting, because she and her husband are both into science and have some robot sheets on their baby gift registry.

This is the baby girl version. Pop over to a2z Scrapbooking to see the boy version and a close-up of the glittery robots. My cards are the mini version you see tucked into a gift bag or punched and tied onto ribbon. They are 3.25" square.

I used this Kelly Purkey small Super Cool stamp set and Distress inks in Picked Raspberry and Salty Ocean.

If you are interested in joining in the a2z challenge this month, break out your Hero Arts and create something for the New Beginnings theme! You can link up here by the end of the month to enter to win $25 to the store! And you can also see my Robot Bride and Groom on the same post.

Peanut Butter Cookie Day

Happy PB Cookie Day! I'm not a huge fan of the basic peanut butter cookies, but this recipe here at Taste of Home looks right up my alley because of the added chocolate and Reese's cups. mmmm...now if only I could get someone here to bake them for me!

I guess I'll settle for the chocolate chip muffins my daughter made the other day. The sacrifices I have to make are huge...huge!

Here's a sneak peek at my project over at a2z Scrapbooking Blog today. I'll tell you a secret—it's not a card.

Don't forget—you can get 15% off at a2z Scrapbooking Supplies by using my code CHARK15 when your cart totals $25 or more...aaannnddd...every purchase you make helps out charities that help kids with gluten allergies and people with Behcet's disease. It's a win/win...you get crafty goodies like the new Ombre Inks and Lia line and your money goes to a good cause.

Have a Great Peanut Butter Cookie Day!

Welcome, Baby!

I made a post today at a2z Scrapbooking about making a baby gift bag tag and it turns out that Catherine gave birth to her little princess today! So Happy Birthday to the Princess and here's a peek at my post today, hope you'll pop over to a2z and say hi!

Too bad I didn't use pinks so I could've used it to send my baby gift to TRH. :)

Happy Saturday!

Monday's Child is Fair of Face

I was born on a Monday, so I guess I'm all "fair of face." Lol! I love that little rhyme, especially since both my kids were born on Sundays...so that makes them bonny and blithe!

And here's a segue for you—a baby card! I used Pretty Little Studio products and I just love their vintage die cuts, like this little guy and their printed vellum like the aqua wood grain here.

If you want to know what day you were born on, check day of birth. They'll also give you some more of your "characteristics" like I'm apparently soft-spoken and like to spend time with my family...while the second is true, the first...well, I don't think so! It also says I tend to have anemia-related problems and I do take iron sometimes for anemia. Hmmm, weird!

Happy Monday!
