Happy Trivia Day

Here's a piece of trivia for you—there's a Trivia Day and it's today! So celebrate with a little Trivial Pursuit, because that's why trivia games became popular. Here's the official story.

History of Trivia Day

The World famous trivia game, Trivial Pursuit, is thought to have sparked people’s fascination with trivia and competing to see who knows more odd facts about geography, history, art, science, sports and entertainment.

Trivial Pursuit was first created in in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1979 by two men named Chris Haney and Scott Abbott, who had become frustrated to find pieces of their Scrabble game had gone missing, thus inspiring them to create their own game. Trivial Pursuit became an almost instant hit and worldwide phenomenon, and the trivia craze began.

I've been a fan of Trivial Pursuit since it came out in the 80s, though I can count on one hand the number of times I've won since then. Dang Sports Category!

While thanking someone isn't trivial (I think you should thank people daily), I have a little thank you art today. I got this coloring card with my first-ever Honey Bee Stamps order. While I haven't inked my stamps yet, I did break out my new Polychromos pencils and colored this baby up.

Dotted Card

I've seen this technique a few times with different masks and wanted to give it a try. I drew and cut out an apple shape, found some Crayola markers that have the bigger tip and got to work. It was easy to make and I thought it turned out well.

The trick is to almost outline the shape so you get a defined shape. I just dotted very close together near the edge of the apple mask and then let the dots get less dense the farther out I went from the mask. Also make sure your adhesive you use isn't going to pull up the paper when you remove it.

 The thank you die is from Heidi Swapp. I used two reds, two oranges and a purply red marker. This one came together fast.  If you need a bunch of cards, use a large shape and large markers. The kids can do this one too...and they can actually outline it if that's easier. Great for end-of-year thank yous for teachers.

Watercoloring Like Mad

I spent the better part of the day on Monday just playing with watercoloring (with Tombow markers, I love their vibrancy). And I actually made a few into cards too. My daughter needed some thank you cards for her graduation gifts, so I took out the Heidi Swapp thank you die I got on sale and put it to work.

I snipped it apart here and added star sequins.

For this one, I die cut from one watercolor panel and attached it to another. I added Diamond Stickles to the words.  

For these, I used the die cut and the negative space to make two cards. Don't you love how bright the Tombow markers are? I colored on the card itself and then added water.

This last one is just cut from a rainbow (ROYGBIV) piece of watercolor. It looks trickier than it was.

And that's all I have for today, but aren't you impressed I actually made cards and didn't just color or paint? I am! Next I ought to use my digi stamps that I color to make actual projects...wish me luck on that!

Crafty Friends Are The Best

Just wanted to share two cards I received recently from two talented ladies. The first is from my sister-in-law, Donna, who is pretty new to cardmaking, though she has always been crafty. It's my birthday card with some money in the pocket. I wonder what I should get? I'm thinking I should head to Jo Ann's and see what needs to come home with me! Love how cute this is!

The second card is a thank you from Karen, who's a frequent commenter here on the blog, which I totally appreciate! She won a little blog candy and sent this beautiful card. Love, love the gold ink on the background and the front panel. And the bird looks so cool on the die cut. Thanks for the thank you, Karen!

And here are the the bird stamps I won from Karen awhile back...which I didn't send a thank you for...but am so glad I won. Aren't they the cutest? I watercolored them with Distress Inks. Now I have to decide what to do with them. I've also used them on envelopes to dress them up.

You're a Doll

I got this fun image at A Day for Daisies and love it! She looks like the old-fashioned Barbies with the real eyelashes that my older sister had (which is why I added this sentiment). I had Malibu Barbie, and she was definitely more modern with her tan and straight blond hair.

I added some retro colors (aqua and rose pink) and some fun glitter gumdrops by Your Next Stamp. I gave her a little mole too, just for fun. Of course I added some glitter paper strips to match the gumdrops and a patterned paper with roses for the base.

Did you hear Mattel is coming out with some new Barbies that are more like our population (varied in color, size and shape)? Seems like a fine idea to me. Course, now you'll have to buy all different kinds of clothes because one dress won't fit all the dolls...clever, Mattel, clever.
